Pakistan's roads — especially outside major cities — generate enormous dust levels. The air filter's job is to prevent this dust from entering your engine, where it acts as an abrasive. A clogged or poor-quality filter hurts power, fuel economy, and long-term engine health.
OEM-equivalent paper filters from Bosch or ACDelco work well when changed at the recommended intervals, typically every 15,000–25,000 km. In dusty conditions, inspect monthly and replace every 10,000 km.
K&N's oiled cotton-gauze filters are washable and reusable for the life of the car. They flow more air than paper filters, which can marginally improve power. The catch: they must be correctly re-oiled after washing, or their filtration efficiency drops — worth it for enthusiasts and long-term owners.
For daily drivers in city traffic, stick to quality OEM-spec paper filters and change them every 10,000–15,000 km in dusty conditions. For highway-heavy drivers, a K&N is a good one-time investment.
Never drive with a clogged air filter. A badly restricted filter can cause the engine to run rich, which washes oil off cylinder walls, accelerates wear, and increases fuel consumption significantly.
